Every day, find the program of films and series to watch on TV. Tonight: the new TF1 series with Audrey Fleurot and Arnaud Ducret, a post-WWII German series and a poignant story adapted from Stephen King.

THE FILM OF THE DAY

Published as a six-episode serial novel in 1996, The green Line by Stephen King moves many readers. Three years later, its transposition to the screen by Frank Darabont (who had already adapted The escapees, another prison drama by the same author) acquired the status of a masterpiece. The mix of genres, between drama and fantasy, the denunciation of racism and the death penalty, as well as the extraordinary performances of Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan (nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor) allow him to achieve critical and public success and become an unmissable film. The Master of Horror himself quotes The green Line among the favorite adaptations of his works, with The escapees, Stand By Me and Dolores Claiborne.

Les Sables d’Olonne Vendée. When the Casino des Sports received Trenet, Piaf, Bécaud or Brassens
In particular, Georges Brassens in 1955 and 56, Charles Trénet in 1957, Gilbert Bécaud and Edith Piaf in 1959.

Charles TRENET

THE SEA ; The sea
That we see dancing along the clear gulfs
Has reflections of silver
The sea (…).

This song, the lyrics of which were written by Charles Trenet, in a train between Perpignan and Montpellier, evokes the Mediterranean – and its “clear gulfs” of the Eastern Pyrenees, Hérault and Aude, but it could be fully s’ apply to the magical vision of this immensity seen froms the Sables d’Olonne jetties… ..

But the song “The sea“, Created in 1954, did not have the expected success in its beginnings and remained in a drawer for three years.
Perhaps the Casino des Sports was, like the other sites of Charles Trenet’s summer 1957 tour, at the origin of the revival of this song, which has become a classic of French song.
Indeed, in 1957, Charles Trenet came to the edge of our ocean and will perform at the Casino des Sports des Sables d’Olonne on August 5, as well as Philippe Clay (August 16) or Gloria Lasso (August 20).

Edith PIAF

The biggest stars came to sing at the Casino des Sports des Sables d’Olonne.
Even Edith Piaf, the great Edith Piaf!
Back from America, she came to sing in Les Sables d’Olonne at the Casino des Sports on Tuesday, August 25, 1959, as evidenced by one of the press clippings dating from that year.

Bécaud, Piaf, and the revelation of the season Sacha Distel.

“At the Casino des Sports, (…) Sunday 23 August Gilbert BECAUD, Tuesday 25 August, Edith PIAF. After a very lively weekend of August 15 which saw the Casino des Sports sell out both Saturday with the jazz festival, and Sunday with sacha Distel, revelation of the season, Ms. and Mr. Hoffmann, the dynamic directors of the Salle de la Rudelière, announce another sensational program for the coming week. (…) Sunday evening 23 August, the hectic Gilbert Bécaud will be at the Casino des Sports (…) ”.

Report of Edith Piaf’s show

We will read with attention the account of Paule Doré (member of the family who owns the newspaper Les Sables – Vendée Journal), far from being tender with Edith Piaf….!

“The Great Week of Success at the Casino des Sports. Full rooms for the Henry Simon Dance Festival, for Claude Luter, Gilbert Bécaud and Edith Piaf. (…) Edith Piaf performed on Tuesday evening in a wonderful atmosphere. (…) Tables and overcrowded tables everywhere.
Although I don’t like Edith Piaf on stage, I have been to hear her. It was already a few years since I had seen it and I was disappointed… I prefer it to the radio (…). So Edith Piaf sang eleven romances in 36 minutes. Ovations, applause, reminders … The artist returned, left … mimed caresses and fear of his long, white fingers. (…) Anyway, it appears that Edith Piaf still does not need a talisman to subjugate the crowd…
Today is Edith Piaf, as it was yesterday Mistinguett and how many others… Tomorrow, new stars will shine in the sky of success, to end up tiring us one day. Each in turn! ”(Paule Doré).

Gilbert BECAUD

As for Monsieur 100,000 volts – Gilbert Bécaud’s nickname – he performed at the Casino des Sports on Sunday 23 August 1959.

Georges BRASSENS

At the CASINO DES SPORTS – July 28, 1956

“Georges Brassens, the“ cursed poet ”of the song, the one who obtained one of the biggest hits of the season last year at the Casino des Sports, will be on stage again at the friendly establishment of Rudelière, next Saturday 28 July (1956), during the evening dance, at 9 p.m.

With Georges Brassens, we are dealing with a child of nature, a little wild, a little vagabond.
He is originally from Languedoc, nursery of the Troubadours.
He has the head of a gypsy, the build of an athlete, he sings his poems to music of his own and accompanies himself on the guitar.

Audiences from Olympia, Bobino, Pacra, Belgium, Switzerland, North Africa cheered him on, he won the Grand Prix du Disque.
Certain passages of his compositions frightened the pontiffs of Radio-diffusion.
But rest assured, if he is daring, he does not like vulgarity; and what could be more poetic than his “Butterfly Hunt” or more moving than “L’Auvergnat” or “Prayer”?
In a genre completely different from the other stars of the music hall, Georges Brassens remains a remarkable composer, full of wit and poetry, and a very nice performer despite the gruff air he wants to give himself.
Everyone will be happy to see him again on Saturday evening at the Casino des Sports.

Aliens are looked for everywhere, but some terrestrial life forms are even stranger than the inhabitants of distant worlds one might imagine. We invite you to discover a series of ten animals with strange powers or which are not really what they seem.

Axolotl, the salamander that has the secret of regeneration

This tiny animal native to Mexico is favored by aquarists and has a bit of an alien head, with its hairy tentacle species behind its head – which are actually its gills. Amphibian, the axolotl will however spend its life in water. It remains in fact most of the time in the larval state, without beginning its metamorphosis towards its adult form, which does not prevent it from reproducing.

But axolotl also has regenerative abilities that are catching the attention of the scientific community. If the damage to the spine in humans can be irreversible, the little Mexican salamander will repair it without problem. And biologists are trying to figure out how.

“Four days after the amputation [de sa queue], stem cells located one millimeter from the wound divide three times faster than the norm to regenerate the spinal cord and replace lost neurons ”, explains Emanuel Cura Costa, biologist at the University of La Plata in Argentina, who co-signed a study on the subject in May.

The axolotl regenerates everything, or almost everything: its limbs, but also its

["content"]=> array(1) { ["encoded"]=> string(9965) "

Laura Smet announced on Saturday September 4 that she would not attend the concert in tribute to her father, scheduled for September 14.

Almost four years after the death of Le Taulier, tributes continue to be organized regularly in France. On September 14, a concert event will take place at the AccorHotels Arena from Paris. The event titled Johnny Hallyday: that I love you, will bring together many artists who will cover the most famous songs of the rocker. Johnny Hallyday’s daughter will not be present.

Visibly annoyed by the rumors about her participation, Laura Smet wanted to clarify the situation. On Saturday September 4, she posted a story on her Instagram account for deny his coming to the concert event. The daughter of Johnny Hallyday and Nathalie Baye shared an article about her upcoming reunion with Laetitia Hallyday at the concert. She added a red gif stating the fake news and wrote: “Laura Smet will not be present on September 14 at the AccorHotels Arena“.

This announcement on Instagram is surprising, because Laura Smet decided last July to stop posting on her account, she deleted all her photos, including those with his father, Johnny Hallyday. She had since been completely inactive on her account.

David Hallyday and Eddy Mitchell will not be present at the event concert

Like Laura Smet, her half-brother David Hallyday did not wish to join the concert event in tribute to his father. Eddy Mitchell, Johnny Hallyday’s faithful friend will not be present either. The reason was mentioned in Do not touch My TV, it would be linked to money.

Humans and animals have a great ability to solve novel problems by generalizing from existing knowledge and inferring new solutions from limited data. This is much harder to achieve with artificial intelligence.

Animals (including humans) navigate by creating a representative map of the outside world in their head as they move around. Once we know two locations are close to each other, we can infer that there is a shortcut between them even if we haven’t been there. These maps make use of a network of “grid cells” and “place cells” in parts of the brain.

In earlier work, Professor Erie Boorman, postdoctoral researcher Seongmin (Alex) Park, Douglas Miller and colleagues showed that human volunteers could construct a similar cognitive map for abstract information. The volunteers were given limited information about people in a two-dimensional social network, ranked by relative competence and popularity. The researchers found that the volunteers could mentally reconstruct this network, represented as a grid, without seeing the original.

The new work takes the research further by testing if people can actually use such a map to find the answers to novel problems.

Matchmaking entrepreneurs

As before, volunteers learned about 16 people they were told were entrepreneurs, ranked on axes of competence and popularity. They never saw the complete grid, only comparisons between pairs.

They were then asked to select business partners for individual entrepreneurs that would maximize growth potential for a business they started together. The assumption was that an entrepreneur scoring high in competence but low on popularity would be complemented by one with a higher popularity score.

“For example, would Mark Zuckerberg be better off collaborating with Bill Gates or Richard Branson?” Boorman said. (The actual experiment did not use real people.)

While the volunteers were performing the decision task, the researchers scanned their brains with functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI.

If the volunteers were using the grid cells inside their head to infer the answer, that should be measurable with a tailored analysis approach applied to the fMRI signal, Boorman said.

“It turns out the system in the brain does show the signature of these trajectories being computed on the fly,” he said. “It looks like they are leveraging the cognitive map.”

Computing solutions on the fly

In other words, we can take in loosely connected or fragmentary information, assemble it into a mental map, and use it to infer solutions to new problems.

Scientists have considered that the brain makes decisions by computing the value of each choice into a common currency, which allows them to be compared in a single dimension, Park said. For example, people might typically choose wine A over wine B based on price, but we know that our preference can be changed by the food you will pair with the wine.

“Our study suggests that the human brain does not have a wine list with fixed values, but locates wines in an abstract multidimensional space, which allows for computing new decision values flexibly according to the current demand,” he said.

The cognitive map allows for computation on the fly with limited information, Boorman said.

“It’s useful when the decisions are novel,” he said. “It’s a totally new framework for understanding decision making.”

The navigational map in rodents is located in the entorhinal cortex, an “early” part of the brain. The cognitive map in humans expands into other parts of the brain including the prefrontal cortex and posterior medial cortex. These brain areas are part of the default mode network, a large “always on” brain network involved in autobiographical memory, imagination, planning and the theory of mind.

France ends its Paralympic Games with 54 medals, thanks in particular to a badminton title for Lucas Mazur. The closing ceremony will be to follow from 1 pm on France 3 and here live video.

This is not the“esprit” government, assures Jean Castex. Yesterday evening, on France 2, the Prime Minister declared that there was no question of “controlling” the use of back-to-school allowance, after the words of the Minister of Education who had suggested that it was sometimes intended for the purchase of“flat screens”.

11h53 : A few minutes away from the debate between the five candidates for the environmentalist primary, I invite you to read the article by my friend Clément Parrot who summarizes their programs for you.

11h52 : In about ten minutes, Yannick Jadot, Eric Piolle, Delphine Batho, Sandrine Rousseau and Jean-Marc Governatori will debate for the first time in order to obtain the nomination of the environmentalist pole for the presidential election of 2022. 10h51 : If Yannick Jadot is leading the poll, that does not necessarily announce a victory in the primary. “Let us remember that in 2016, Cécile Duflot was favorite, she did not even manage to qualify in the second round, and in the previous primary, the big favorite was Nicolas Hulot and finally he was beaten by Eva Joly”, underlines Jean-François Doridot. The can therefore “there are surprises in an environmentalist primary”, concludes the CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs.

It will be to follow live on France Inter and the franceinfo channel in the program “Political questions”.

10h49 : The Ipsos-Sopra Steria survey for franceinfo on candidates for the EELV primary “For the moment, measures a gap in notoriety which is abysmal between Yannick Jadot and the other four contenders for the primary”, analysis Jean-François Doridot, Managing Director of Ipsos Public Affairs.

Marvel Studios didn’t waste any time in confirming Simu Liu as an Avenger, with a promo video celebrating the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star as the newest member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes arriving just 24 hours after the shared superhero universe’s 25th feature film installment hit theaters.

That’s a huge vote of confidence in both the actor and his franchise debut, and he even shares the screen with a couple of heavy hitters in the mid-credits scene. Shang-Chi and Awkwafina’s Katy discover that the Ten Rings have caught the attention of not just Doctor Strange’s associate Wong, but Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner as well.

In a new interview, director Destin Daniel Cretton broke down the first of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ two stingers, and outlined his hopes for what it could mean for the future of the MCU.

“We talked about it being Brie, but we did not know that it could make plausible sense that Brie could be there. I mean, it obviously helps that we ended up landing on hologram versions of these characters so they can just step away and get back into whatever crazy stuff they’re dealing with. And I’m not even totally aware of what they’re dealing with. All I know is I pitch ideas, and the only time that ideas get kicked back is if it doesn’t make logical sense to other ideas that are percolating for those characters. In terms of what’s next, I know what’s on my mind is the same as what’s on everybody else’s mind. And hopefully, there’s an Avengers in the future, somewhere.”

Kevin Feige has hardly been shy in admitting that the Avengers will be assembled again, but few people were expecting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to come right out and confirm its title hero as a new addition to the roster. It looks as though the origins of the artifact, and the mysterious beacon they’re sending out, could be set to factor heavily into whatever the major storyline of Phase Four turns out to be.

Wong will return in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so the connective tissue threaded from Shang-Chi throughout the upcoming slate of projects is already happening much faster than anticipated.

Of his six years in politics, two years in government and four in opposition, Richard Legendre remembers being a case in point on Parliament Hill. Moreover, he was the first from the sports world to become Minister of Recreation and Sport in Quebec.

There weren’t a lot of people around me who knew about sport, who were touched by sport. I was a little “different” in the group. And a bit entertaining too because people didn’t really see me as a political figure, but more of a sports figure. It helped me in my involvement as Minister of Recreation and Sports, explains the 68-year-old man.

The former member for Blainville knows very well that his decision to take the plunge into politics, moreover to the Parti Québécois, while he was working for a Canadian federation, surprised more than one.

Unfortunately, there has long been this perception, which still exists a little, that sport should be apolitical. I never understood that and I believe it is a mistake to think so. Politics is life in society, it is civic life. And sport, by not wanting to be in politics, it marginalizes itself. He puts himself outside social debates. And me, that’s what I deplore. Besides, it’s been 20 years since I’ve been there and there aren’t that many who have done so afterwards.

The exception and not the rule

The presence of Isabelle Charest, former short track speed skater who became Minister of Recreation and Sports, and Enrico Ciccone, former hockey player who became leader of the liberal opposition in the matter, certainly helps the cause in Quebec. However, according to Richard Legendre, sports representation is still clearly insufficient in the National Assembly.

Now we are more, but we are cases of exception rather than the rule, which does not help, I believe, the political advancement of sport. Sport needs to gain weight strategically and politically. We’re not there yet.

For example, he compares the budget of Sport to that of Culture.

Culture, which demands more and which should have more, is a billion dollars in the budget of the Government of Quebec. Leisure and Sport is $ 100 million, so 10 times less. The total budget is over $ 100 billion, says Richard Legendre. Also, we have a minister, but we do not have a ministry. Leisure and Sport is a small sector of the Ministry of Education. And there, it is not a blame to the current government, it is for all the governments.

The tennis man believes that nothing will change if there are not more people from the sports world to interfere in the political world. He also ardently wishes.

It is by pleading from within that we can achieve this. If we don’t get involved in politics, politics do not interfere with us.

According to him, more than ever, sport could make a difference in the lives of Quebecers and generate real social benefits.

At a time when we are talking about health, education, school perseverance, social integration, there is an extraordinary way for all that, and that is sport, he pleads. It is a culture of sport, physical activity and the outdoors that we should develop in Quebec. To achieve this, the people who are passionately affected by it must share their passion with the population. And that looks a lot like playing politics.

["content"]=> array(1) { ["encoded"]=> string(7211) "

To anyone else, under any other circumstances, what Robert Piché tells about his experience in the cockpit of his sinking Airbus in August 2001 might seem esoteric.

But it is Robert Piché, it is the commander of flight TS 236 who is speaking.

So we believe it.

“I felt a hand on my shoulder, my father was pointing at the island. I raised my head: the island was there. My father, his heart stopped beating when he was in my arms. You believe it or you don’t believe it, but that’s the way I felt that evening… ”

This confidence, Robert Piché gives it to Paul Larocque in the documentary 19 minutes: the Piché feat, broadcast Monday on TVA, at 9 p.m., to mark the 20th anniversary of this unusual feat in the annals of aeronautics: the glide of a jumbo jet over the Atlantic, after a loss of fuel, on a distance of 273 km.

Robert Piché is one of my personal heroes. For the calm he displayed, for the mastery that saved more than 300 passengers under terribly difficult circumstances, of course. But above all, above all, for his personal story.

It is not easy to land an airliner on a rock in the ocean after a glide, when most of the instruments are kaput. But it’s not easy, either, to change your life at all. To drop a past that had landed him in prison for drug trafficking in 1983 before getting back in hand and becoming a pilot at Transat in 1996. To admit his addiction problems, to overcome them.

And to do useful work by talking about this addiction to alcohol, by exposing himself in the public square to say that he, the national hero, was leading an intimate fight: my name is Robert Piché, I am an alcoholic. Heroes are humans and humans are fallible.

Robert Piché has used his fame to tell those locked in the hell of addiction that we can get out of it, one day at a time. He gave lectures everywhere, to hammer home the message that we can get away with it.

Then there is the feat of 2001, of course. Robert Piché corrected his own mistake in a masterly and unexpected way, which forced admiration far beyond the borders of Quebec: in a portrait of the famous commander “Sully” (who landed his plane on the Hudson in 2009 ), the American journalist specializing in aeronautics William Langwiesche devotes long admiring passages to another gliding flight, that of Commander Piché1.

But above all, there is the feat of a life over which Robert Piché regained control, while it was in distress. I admire him for it, too. I admire him immensely.

Recently, I received him for an interview on the radio. During the interview, a man wrote to me to tell me that he had read Commander Piché’s book while he was in prison …

It was the first book this man read.

“Tell him that since then I have read 19 books …”

The guy wrote that to me, 19 books read, all proud; it is his feat, his soaring flight over the ocean of his own. Reading this man’s message, I told myself – again – that Robert Piché was a hero for much more than his feat of August 2001.

In the TVA documentary, Robert Piché therefore recounts that he had a shock when the second engine failed, when the Airbus began to hover. He was afraid of dying. There was a moment when everything was blurry: “It was crazy,” said the commander.

For years, Robert Piché reflected on the meaning of his feat. Why him ? Why was he the one in charge?

He believes, after all these years, to have found meaning in his achievement.

We all try to make sense of our life. We come into the world, then we die. And in between, we try to make sense of our life …

Robert Piché

And when the second engine failed, Robert Piché tilted his head, said to himself that it couldn’t be: “Life no longer made sense. ”

It was there that he felt that hand on his shoulder, that of his father. “He was laughing”, he pointed to the island, said Robert Piché, the island of Terceira, the one where the military airport was … “When I lifted my head, the island was in front of me. ”

Why him ?

Robert Piché has an answer, 20 years later: “I am starting to set up a therapy center for alcoholics and drug addicts. It’s going to be my legacy. The famous meaning that disappeared when the second engine stopped. ”

With “Gogo”, the documentary filmmaker of “On the way to school” and “Big day” renews his interest in education. This time through the portrait of a Kenyan nonagenarian who decides to go back to school. For her, it is about making an impression and promoting access to education for young women in her country.

He makes documentaries that make us both travel the world and go back to school, which is not unrelated to his personal story… Meeting with Pascal Plisson, adventurer, observer and passionate about education, in full promotion of gogo (in theaters), where he tells of a back to school unlike any other, in the footsteps of an astonishing nonagenarian Kenyan.

The three documentaries that you made, On the way to school, The big day and today, gogo, talk about the joy of going to school. What makes you want to get this message across?
It is undoubtedly linked to the birth of my children. I understood through them the importance of school and the difficulty in which parents find themselves when the children do not want to go! For me, school was a complicated affair, I stopped everything around the age of fifteen, in second. I couldn’t bear to be locked in a classroom, I wanted to leave, to travel the world. I built myself through travel. Once I became a father, I understood all that school brought. And then there was this meeting with two children who were running in the savannah, in Kenya, and who explained to me all the way they had to go to get to their school. It made me want to film them, to get involved, to talk about education. As a child, I had school downstairs from my house and I did not know how to take advantage of it. These kids from Kenya were teaching me a lesson. Like the teens I filmed next in The big day and like Gogo today.
