Canadian Update-Big Week ahead for Harper
Yes the Hedgehogreport stretchs into the great White North. Next week we will see one of those unique parliamentarian showdowns.  On Tuesday the 27th Prime Minister Harper will introduce his 2009-2010 Budget. As our readers will recall the PM did not secure a majority of seats in the Oct election. So to pass the budget he needs the votes of some members from the other three parties.Â
Actually it was more dire then that as the Liberal, NDP and Quebec Bloc parties last December formed a public alliance to boot Harper out of the Premiership. Harper, however, called for a six week recess of Parliement until the 27th of January. This quickly called recess allowed the PM to appoint 18 members to the Canadian senate and to prepare a budget plan. In addition the Liberal party ditched Mr. Dion who had lost the Oct election and had elected a new leader Michael Ignatieff. Since then the ardor for a coalition that excludes the Conservatives has cooled a bit.Â
So here is the setting. The Conservative Party will introduce a budget calling for a 34 billion dollar stimulus package. This budget will have lots of directed stimulus for some tax cuts and while I think everyone will get a tax cut its tilted towards lower income folks. The fate of this budget and the government hangs with the Liberal party. The NDP will not go for it and Quebec Bloc will vote the conservatives out as they are budget porkers. The Bloc’s price for voting to oust the conservatives is money and more money for Quebec.Â
So on the 28th Mr. Ignatieff will decide to topple the government or provide them with votes to pass the budget. The only dispute on the budget for the liberals is the across the board nature of the tax cuts. What will happen? That’s totally unclear right now. There are four major downsides for the Liberals to boot the PM out.
1. The Conservatives did win the election. They won the most votes. Most voters think they should submit a budget.
2. Times will get worst before they get better. If the liberals boot the conservatives out guess who gets to govern during this recession? Guess who owns the unemployment numbers for the next 18 months?
3. Governing with the NDP means going hard left. The liberals will not be able to govern for long from the center left. They will have to move more left to lock in the NDP votes.
4. Finally needing the Bloc vote to form a government is an unpopular policy in all the all other provinces. It smells fishy as it appears that one party is putting its political interest over national interests. The Bloc does not care one whit about National Canadian. Its all about Quebec Me.
So stayed tuned

HUSSEIN OBAMA IS NOT MY PRESIDENT!!!!
Did you hear the White House press conference today?
Fox Reporter: “Is there a war on terror?â€
Hussein clone: “um uh…um…um..uhâ€
Well, if the Libs/NDP/BQ vote against Harper, as I understand it, they aren’t simply voting him out, they are forcing him to call elections. (Even if I am wrong about that, I believe he still can). And if he does that, current polls indicate the Conservatives will hold the same number, if not gain, a few Ridings. But after the budget vote I suspect those parties that didn’t support it will lose support in polling. Already the NDP and BQ are polling 3 points less then what they did in last year’s elections. If the Liberals don’t support the budget I suspect they will drop in support. One poll taken around the time of the declared coalition of the Libs/NDP/BQ, and declared joint rejection of Harper’s budget, had the results of a federal election thus:
Conservatives: 51%
Liberals: 20%
NDP: 10%
BQ: 8%
Green: 6%
That means the Libs drop 6, swinging about 15-20 Liberal-Represented Ridings to the Conservatives. It would also swing about 5-7 NDP Ridings to the Conservatives, and as many as 12 BQ Ridings to the Conservatives. Which, in turn, would give the Conservatives well over the magic 154 number for a Majority.
part II:

EH
I think, and any Canadian help would be appreciated. if Harper was out the coalition of the Axis of Liberal/NDP and Bloc Q would be in.
The three parties are willing to form a coalition of the temporarily willing. So its like a No confidence vote and a vote to coalasce all at one time.

As or the inability to state there is a war on terror, I am reminded of John Adams. During the debate in Congress before the vote on independence, Adams complained about those who opposed the measure. “King George has declared us in rebellion. Why can’t they?â€

New visitor to this site….love Eph_Rove’s rants, hahaha.
Tell me who this scenario helps most: Obama leads to a terrible stock market (hovering around 7,000 for the remainder of his term) and high oil prices of around $80-100 as foreign countries continue to challenge him vigorously because of his weakness of terrorism?
Who does everyone back in the Steelman-Blunt matchup in Mizzou? It seems analogous to the Palin-Murkowski 2006 gubernatorial battle. The similarities are pretty darn striking in theme and narrative between the two races, though Palin was probably a bigger unknown than Steelman.
Tommy,
Obama will say that he inherited the recession and financial crisis. He will outraise any GOP candidate easily and will cruise to re-election.
Another factor here is that the GOP field will be weak. I expect the big names like Palin and Jindal to sit out and wait for a friendlier GOP climate in 2016.
If the market is at 5000 and gas is $5, then he may get some blame.
Or GOP successfully blames everything on Obama. Public opinion sours. GOP is rejuvenated. Hispanics flock to GOP. Obama loses.
Your guess is as good as mine
Per Drudge: Obama Takes On Limbaugh
My money’s on El Rushbo.
Gee, if Bush had made a big deal…say out of Oberdouche…the MSM would have had a field day about dissent, freedom of speech, loyal opposition and a whole list of other idiotic crap to whack him over the head with for about a week.
Matthews and Olberdonkey would have teamed up for a live hour on why Bush is against free speech with a panel of 14 leftwing tards.
His Most Merciful Highness Obama must think that he is above criticism.
I think Steelman is a stronger statewide candidate than Blunt at this time. She is conservative yet has crossover appeal that Blunt does not have.

#20:
But, could she beat Blunt, one-on-one? He would have obvious name recognition and fundraising advantages.
Plus, for the earlier poster, I’m not sure about comparing this race to the Palin-Murkowski matchup. The dynamic was different. Palin was facing an unpopular Governor.
I am very much hoping that the GOP nominates Palin in 2012.
I actually thought Bush was a decent TX governor. I liked him more than our current one. He had a lot of help from Bob Bullock, though.
What he didn’t realize was that democrats (and a lot of republicans) in DC were not as friendly. Bush’s difficulty in managing congress was one of his bigger problems.
re 19: I assume you’re referring to this story. Obama was telling the GOP that they need to not be divisive like Limbaugh is.
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/01/24/Obama_to_GOP_Ignore_Limbaugh/UPI-27101232776402/
If it’s true that Limbaugh said on his show about Obama: “I hope he fails” than he was out of line. That’s like saying you want to country to fail. It was out of line for people to root for Bush’s failure, and this is no different. By the way, Bush’s failures were his own.
While I respect Limbaugh’s skill as an entertainer, I hope that someday he is exposed for his racism and sexism (particularly the sexism, which he doesn’t even try to hide).
Obama made a mistake even saying his name. That only fuels the fire and gives Limbaugh legitimacy. No politician should ever acknowledge media personalities like Limbaugh. They’re like spoiled children that want attention.
Hey Aaron, while I agree with you the Obozo made a mistake even mentioning Rush given his party’s hard left wing love of the so-called Fairness Doctrine. The false messiah just came off looking like a dictator and enemy of free speech and dissent.
That said your comments about wishing him to be exposed for his “racism and sexism” are ridiculous. You will just have to keep on waiting since that only exists in the imaginations of his various critics.
Rush was talking more about the Government taking control of everything. Having said that, I am no huge fan of Rush’s either. I don’t think he is a racist although his way of bloviating can sure make it seem that way sometimes.
As for Big Joe – the incumbent is always favored to win. Personally, if the economy is in recovery mode by then, he will probably be up by 25 to 30 points 3 months out from the election. Then, the young GOP candidate will make a stunning comeback that shocks the msm. In the end, Obama wins but it will be close and he will lose seats in the house and the Senate. This will make the Senate no longer filibuster proof (the dems get that status in 10).
Also, Aaron, I would put Franken in the same category as Rush. Of course, the Dems put their idiots into actual senate seats.
Further, (sorry I am pissed now) I spent 2 nights in Montreal and was forced to watch CNN. Maureen Dowd was on Larry King Dead bemoaning the fact that Princess Caroline will not be handed a senate seat. Gosh, I don’t recall her defending Palin for her lack of “experience” especially when she has 1 million times the experience that Princess Caroline has. Even when the left is in total power, they are still hypocrits.
Our day is not done. Trust me. The right will be back in a very big way. 2010 will be tough but we WILL gain some seats in the House. In 12, even with BO reelected, the GOP will make significant gains in the house and senate.
1 last thing – I wonder if Bill Mahr will make light of the fact that Princess Caroline forgot how to use the english language when asked one softball question?
If you don’t like Larry King, don’t watch it. I almost never watch his show, since his guests are usually editorialists or talk radio hosts that do little more than argue.
Maureen Dowd, for example, is a liberal columnist. She doesn’t pretend to be conservative so you shouldn’t expect her to like Palin.
It’d be like me expecting Rush Limbaugh to start saying good things about Obama.
A few points of clarification:
1) If the coalition were to vote down the Conservative government, and thereby remove Harper as Prime Minister, there likely would not be another election. The Governor General has the power to either a) ask the coalition to form a new government (which they could, and would), or b) to call new elections. It’s anybody’s guess what she would do, but I think option a) is somewhat more likely.
2) If a new election were held, the result would definitely be another minority government, but it might not be a Conservative one. The leadership change in the Liberal party has rejuvenated their support, and they are basically even with the Conservatives now. However, causing another election would not help their popularity.
My feeling is that Ignatieff will allow the Conservative government to stand. If he waits it out until the next election, instead of forcing one, he is likely to become Prime Minister. He is already even with Harper in the polls; and with the economic malaise, Harper’s numbers won’t be improving. The previous Liberal leader was a political dead man, he had nothing to lose. Ignatieff has a bright future, and would be wise to bide his time.
Jody!
You’re a freakin’ moron! I hope they sterilize people like you and your children (if any) so stupidity genes are not passed on in the world.
Anyone can easily make a list about someone and make outrageous statements that could be taken out of context without discussing their accomplishments. Let’s try:
OBAMA:
- We know Obama was a criminal because he consistently used drugs in his youth (early 20’s)…and yes, crack, coke, and pot are illegal so consistent use of them would make him a repeat offender.
- We also know he got into Harvard on affirmative action with poor grades from Columbia (not even a 3.0) so though a great speaking voice, he got advantages others did not because of his skin color and not because of intellect.
- We know he is confused about how many states there are in the US and made a number of erroneous statements about basic concepts that his handlers had to guide him on during the campaign. That says something about his intellect, or lack thereof.
- We know he supported the suffering of babies and actively advocated that they they be left to suffer for hours until they died while their insides burned and rotted away but yet believes terrorists must be protected and provided basic rights.
- We know had it not been for his Caucasian grandparents, he would have been another poor child because his irresponsible mother got knocked-up when she was 17 and did not even want to be bothered raising him while she was concentrating on her own career and pursuing other men.
- We know his irresponsible father took no interest in raising him and left it to his Caucasian grandparents to provide for him.
- We know he associated with terrorists and racists.
- We know he is in cahoots with a number of corrupt officials in Illinois that furthered his career.
- We know he has no personal friends and is known for being aloof and that NOT one person could give a personal testimony for him at the convention, which implies he suffers from the ability to be humanistic and have character…NOT ONE FRIEND!
- We know his wife, was promoted and had her salary tripled after he got elected to the senate…can we say unethical?
- We know he broke his promises on campaign finance reform and lobbying…can we again say unethical, as well as a proven liar?
- We know he is a proven liar because he got caught lying in his campaign.
We won’t even discuss Clinton except for he may have been the 1st US POTUS to rape a woman…oh…I forgot, the date rape of the Democratic operative in the hotel did not count and that got buried in the Senate impeachment hearings by Boxer and friends.
So Jody, we will also have plenty to trash Obama and other Dems on so if you want us to bring it on…we can you idiot!
Lest not forget, FDR is the only POTUS to set-up concentration camps for Americans.
Jody copied that, it is all over the web, it is just dem talking points

You are kidding. I thought perhaps he just composed that in a minute or two.
I feel a little better now as trying to compose a paragraph or two does not come easy to me.
