The Obama era-The 1st afternoon of the New era of Responsibility

I did not exactly listen to or read all of Obama’s speech today.  I had a little work to do plus Theradio.com has a great classic country channel.  I have seen that some of the press have picked on the BHO line of “New era of responsibility”.  This new era of responsibility is needed to deal with all the terrible problems that we face.  Let me put a new slant on this phrase and to  expand on  what Obama had to say this afternoon.

We need to be in a new era of Responsibility because we do face massive problems.  Let me say that the solutions to these problems are “Y – O -U” and “M-E”.  Forget all the rhetoric  the solutions of America’s problems are right there in the palms of hands and in our  collective national wills.

I admire Barack for volunteering on MLK day.   I say everyone needs to do more to better mankind.  On a personal level I gave blood several weeks ago (for the 90th plus time) and I give resources to help those who do not have what I am blessed with.  I say go out there and make a difference.

On a personal level folks need to stop smoking, lose weight, exercise more and don’t set yourself up to be a drain on society due to one’s poor health habits.  Lose those Abs for Obama.  Be polite, be courteous, smile at people and try to look after one’s friends, family and neighbors.

If you are   a parent get  your child educated.  If you are a student get the best education you can to be a productive member of society.    Let me say that means too , girls and guys, no children until you are ready to bring them up in a family situation.   I am  looking for a new era of personal responsibility and that includes making sensible personal decisions as to birds and bees stuff.

Finally there are two things over 140 million Americans do every day that change the way America for the better.  Work hard  and work better.  Be a more productive employee or better yet be an businessman and employ others.  America will be restored to its greatness by Americans becoming productive in their work.    So work harder or better yet get a new skill to work smarter.  I say to those who are unemployed that if you work harder and take those jobs no one wants we will be reading about thousands of unemployed laborers returning to Mexico.

Finally we Americans spend money every day.  I don’t think as Americans we all need Wal Mart gift cards from the government to get us out of recession.  I say “greed” is not just a Wall street abuse.  Americans have borrowed too much money for houses, cars, education and  things. I say  spending money one does not have on things we cannot afford is the definition of greed.   I say Americans if you get your personal house in good  financial order you will  be better able to fend for yourself and not rely on Government assistance.  That to me  is what the  new era of Responsibility should be all about.

Any Executive Orders yet. Eager to see how he plays this.

General, you need to be busted to buck private with that drivel.

    Hahhhh

I want my welfare check and Fannie and Freddie to loan me money that I can’t payback.

Anyone know where I send my house, car, and food bills to?

By the way, if Barry pays my bills, I don’t need a sweetheart deal like Chris Dodd, Byron Dorgan, and Barney Frank.

  4. Big Joe says:

    Well said Rdel, great post.

  5. bonncaruso says:

    Nice post, rdel.

And guys, the man hasn’t even been in office for 6 hours. Today is his inauguration. So, lay off the right wing hate for just one day and be civil:axelrodofevil, American Thinker and Co.

Just makes the right look desperate.

    Where is my welfare check?

    Where is my food stamps?

How come Barry can’t paint my daughter’s room?

Nice post – well said. We all must do our part, but government has a responsibility too. Not to earn everyone a living, but to create an economic climate where people can earn a good living and get ahead in life.

And government should not be responsible for our health – we all need to make better decisions in the care of our bodies. But government can create better conditions for good health by ensuring our food is safe, and that our air and water is clean. Also, government can make healthcare accessible and affordable to all.

    rdelbov,

for a change this year i am working with “troubled teens” instead of just children … (read that as mentally ill teens). they wanted someone with a lot of compassion and understanding — but those people were busy sooooo … they got me :)

anyway, i get to work with a paranoid schizophrenic (score!!!! result on my first troubled teen — usually you only get depressed teens and the are no fun at all).

in any case, they really are just like in the movies. they imagine the weirdest things, example (all actual):

teen: japanese ufo’s are using beams to control my mind.

lisab: no, that is not true, that is just a delusion.

teen: i have to sleep above the covers to prevent cameras that are in the tv set, lights, and computer from watching me.

lisab: no, that is not true, that is a delusion, and it does not even make sense.

teen: george bush is using the cia and fbi to follow me because i don’t have a boyfriend and i want to go to chicago to report him to the united nation’s human rights organization!

lisab: well … ok … that one could be true … but they might just think you are a terrorist, it probably is not because you don’t have a boyfriend. :)

Liberal posters telling us about hate and responibility.

    HA!

Besides think how many children could be fed with the money Barry is spending his festivities.

Oh well, starving children probably don’t like arugla and caviar.

  13. lisab says:

    jones,

you are responsible to pay for their healthcare …

and they get to hate you :)

  14. lisab says:

there are pretty much no starving children in the usa … except among the mentally ill or criminal, that is a myth. no child, or person for that matter, is denied food stamps or the school food programs.

obesity among the poor in the usa is a serious problem, they get too many calories, not too few.

  15. lisab says:

to be honest, i was surprised how many free health care options existed until i started working with the mentally ill (tm doesn’t count … i humiliate him pro bono publico)

however, you have to be pretty severely sick to access free health care. that is, there are people who are seriously deranged who do not get free health care — like tm — but the paranoid schizophrenic i talk with got help right away ….

  16. Tina says:

The stock market fell over 300 points today. This was a very divisive and mean spirit – negative speech. They took their campaign speech and chopped it up into an inaguration address.

We are now down over 1,500 points since O was elected President. Elected but not selected.

  17. Tina says:

I wanted to see and hear history today. Unfortunately, history was made on election day, but I did not see and hear a great speech – like an FDR, JFK, or Roosevelt.

It will not be a speech chisled in granite to quote CNN, but dog do-do dumped into the garbage can

  18. Tina says:

    Meant or Reagan.

  19. Tina says:

Breaking News: English newspaper says its the worst Obama speech ever.

  20. Alan says:

You guys just can’t stand being out of power. If you are so much in favor of responsibility, why is it the government’s responsibility when you ran things to help the rich?

Why do the comfortable need help and special laws passed by the government just for them?

Consistency is not a trait practiced by the right.

So just go away for 4 years and stop your whining about how awful government is and how wonderful the private sector is. These theories have been soundly rejected by the voters.

  21. geauxlsu says:

So, should I pay my mortgage this month? Obama is going to pay for my house, right?

  22. jones says:

Alan, The left changes its mind whenever it sees fit.

    1992- change
    2000- experience
    2008 change

    1986-
    no debt
    1996 debt
    2006 no debt
    2008 debt

    Vet for pres
    1992- nope
    1996-nope
    2004- depends
    2008 nope

    I could go on.

  23. lisab says:

not taxing someone at 90% is technically not passing special laws to help the rich. it is letting people keep the money they have earned.

income taxes really only hurt the middle class, because rich people do not receive w2 forms.

now a wealth tax … like real estate taxes, or luxury taxes on cars over 60k or houses over 1 million … now those type of taxes do target the rich.

(obviously a $1 million house in some places in massachusetts or ny would not really be the rich, but you get the idea)

  24. jones says:

    Lisab-

Have you seen the film “mongol.”

    It is excellent.

  25. geauxlsu says:

#20….the comments by Alan are rich in so many ways. However, I’ll restrict my comments to the fact that we are being told to “go away” for four years, yet he is on a conservative website posting instead of out organizing communities for change. I’m starting to think the harsh reality that is soon to come for the faithful disciples really could be fun to watch.

  26. lisab says:

“Have you seen the film “mongol.” ”

no, but i heard it is excellent too.

i have been to mongolia … talk about NOT a place for me … eeeeeek

my husband loved it! he got to camp in the middle of nowhere, with no running water, dust storms, eat meat, … he was in heaven.

i stayed in the capital city, in an apartment, with running hot water and bought cashmere.

  27. jones says:

That is why I asked, I knew you had been.

  28. Tina says:

He must mean rich like the bail out to Golman Sachs.

  29. jones says:

Oh, who remembers when libs were against “Corporate Welfare.”

When was the last time you heard that.

  30. hello dolly says:

Great advice Dave…many have already lost their jobs. Reach out to help family first then people you know who are good citizens. Give to charities who have a good reputation for helping the poor. Start locally. Even if your giving is small…it will help. I am speaking to myself as I write this. Lord, help us all!

    GOP campaigns on CHANGE

    Gotta love it!

I need to do a self help post on a daily basis. Here are some self help/help others ideas

    1. Take your foot off the acclerator
    2. Reuse plastic/paper bags. (I should buy cloth grocery sacks, but re-using is the best I can do right now)
    3. turn in those coins-roll a thing of pennies and save money & pollution(the mint makes more pennies as we keep stockpiling them at home)
    4. go paper less with bills (save a tree and add to the profits of people)

I have this complaint with all pols. Please tell us that we have hard and difficult choices to make to solve our problems.

  34. Big Joe says:

    rdel,

I always admire your efforts to be frugal and to pass on your knowledge. Now the we have a president with 80% approval also telling us to do our part , maybe we’ll see a difference.

Sadly, I doubt it. The credit card ads will still be out in full force. Companies will still try to mislead the uneducated .. its a vicious cycle.

People really need to feel like they are empowered to take on this blitz. It’s a losing battle.

  35. Tina says:

Rdelbov – do not buy lawn fertilizer for cutting the grass. Use/reuse some of the grass clippings.

I could add some more to your frugality lessons.

I always use the canvas bags. I feel so important when I do. Can not use plastic bags in SF though – they are now banned.

  36. Tina says:

Meant applying lawn fertilizer after cutting, sorry.

  37. Tina says:

Its been a long day – up since 2 AM. Its time for me to retire. I will not self ban myself for blasting Obama’s speech.

By the way, I still do not understand mellow yellow. I thought Coca Cola got rid of that drink years ago. Maybe they still stell in other parts of the U.S.

  38. rdelbov says:

    Tina

Several years ago I went through the keeping with the Jones and I hired chemlawn to fertilize and to kill weeds. The yard looked great but after several years I got frugal.

The nicely mowed lawn has some weeds, but no chemicals. The back portion of my backyard has too many trees to grow grass so I compost my leaves back there. My brother or I haul the leaves back there on a Tarp(It was cut out of an old pool cover from neighbor’s yard) I get exercise and mulch out of this process.

  39. jones says:

This jones lets Nature take its course. Less grass is less mowing.

  40. Tina says:

I cut out more and more grass each year because of the water shortage here in CA. We just had 70 degree temps and no rain for the past week or so. Very strange. January is a month for big rain storms here. So, now everything looks dry and in need of water.

    Will Obama help me?

  41. Tina says:

Rdelbov, I now do all of my gardening from mowing to weeding to planting to laying sod to sprinklers. Saves $$$.

  42. rdelbov says:

You guys got the spirit. I tell people all the time that going “green” can save you “green”.

One thing I don’t scrimp on are my walking shoes. I usually buy two pairs a year from SAS

Yup these shoes are not cheap, but they are great. Yup made right in the USA.

#8 – Key Bored – i actually liked this comment of yours. I must not be feeling too well.

  52. The Joker says:

Funny – now that a democrat (BHO) is telling people to be responsible the media and all the kool-aid drinking Obamabots are climbing on board. I’m glad they finally are embracing a CONSERVATIVE ideal.

  53. MDefl says:

In my career, I need to wear suits. Generally, at least 1 very well known men’s store will go out of business every 3 years. I can usually pick up 5 suits for about $500 and add another $150 for alterations. I figure I save approx a thousand dollar. I also have my shoes re-sold.

I bought my work case from a goodwill. It was still brand new and retailed for $120. I paid $4. Now that there is competition in cable TV, I am swithcing providers and saving money. I also buy the store brands where it is the exact same thing as a name brand. I need all savings since the stk mrkt keeps taking everything away.
