Geithner to Treasury-Hillary to State

Well Tim Geithner, head of the New York Federal Reserve, is heading to Treasury.  That seemed to please the markets this afternoon and the Dow rose nearly 500 points.

Hillary seems to be heading to State and let me mention Al Sharpton as a possible replacement.

I will update the recount stuff later.  There has been a huge number of challenged ballots and yet the press has been strangely low on details.  The star trib has not updated any numbers today.  I have seen some reports of a 129 Coleman lead, but cannot find any details.

  1. Bitterlaw says:

First. Why not appoint Bill CLinton to the Senate to take Hillary’s seat. That would make headlines. Can you picture Bill running around the Senate. The role of longest speechmaker has been left vacant since Biden has packed for the VP office.

  2. Richard Orby says:

The Star Tribune is updated..a few minutes ago Coleman was up by 164, but now he is only up by 145….

  3. Eph_Rove says:

    change indeed.

  4. Eph_Rove says:

    Christian Family Tracker poll:

“If you had to re-vote for President of the United States, who would you chose?

    McCain 75%
    Obama 24%

  5. Cory says:

If the “leaks” are to be believed, then we have a very good picture now of who will be running the country for the next four years:

    1. Obama (POTUS)
    2. Biden (VP)
    3. Hillary (State)
    4. Timothy Geithner (Treasury)
    5. Gates (Defense)
    6. Eric Holder (A.G.)
    7. Napolitano (Homeland)
    8. Richardson (Commerce)
    9. Daschle (HHS)
    10. Dan Reicher/Jason Grumet (Energy)
    11. Emanuel (Chief of Staff)
    12. Jim Jones (National Security Advisor)
    13. Vilsack (Agriculture)

    Still to come:
    14. OMB Director
    15. Interior
    16. Education
    17. Labor
    18. Transportation
    19. Veteran’s Affairs
    20. HUD
    21. EPA

    Already in Place:
Fed Chair – Bernanke (term renewal 2010)

  6. Bitterlaw says:

Gore will head EPA. Any bets he won’t be appointed?

  7. Cory says:

I don’t think Gore will be appointed, because I don’t think he wants it.

He likely prefers the title of “Goracle” to “Head of the EPA”.

  8. Eph_Rove says:

    6. That would add to O-bortion’s “change” montra!!

  9. Wes says:

Bitter, my old buddy, returns! I thought you’d jumped off a building somewhere, my man! How goes it?

  10. Brandon says:

    Coleman gets 2 more votes.

    +147.

50% of the vote has been counted.

  11. Bitterlaw says:

Wes – I have been here all along. I did take some threads off as I fell into a period of despair. I am feeling better since I realized that nothing that happens over the next 4 years is my fault. Nothing. I am also excited that the election of Obama almost guarantees that Bill Maher will be off the air by June 1, 2009.

  12. Wes says:

Well, maybe Coleman can stave of The Psychopath–at least till Czar Reid convenes a Senate electoral commission to disenfranchise Minnesota by seating Franken in Coleman’s place.

  13. Wes says:

Well, Bitter, I hate to say I told you so, but I told you Obama would win. You lampooned me for it. Sad to say, I was absolutely right.

  14. rdelbov says:

Right now its +147 Coleman, but there are several other counties to report. I will do a thread later today as I have been working on something called the “Franken Curve”. Just kidding

  15. Brandon says:

They just updated again. No change. Still +147.

  16. Charles says:

Boy with a line-up like that it’ll be small wonder if Skippy doesn’t become unhinged when the Israelis decide they can’t count support from him and take out Iran’s nuclear weapons facilities on their own hook.

  17. Brandon says:

Slight change, Franken nets 5 votes.

    Coleman +142.

    52% of the vote in.

  18. Alan says:

Hillary at State! We can now rub the rights’ nose in it with both Obama and Clinton! Please don’t slash any wrists.
You will still have Hillary Clinton to kick areound some more! Think of all the additional phony charges you can come up with. Another excuse for not thinking!

  19. Phil says:

By all means, you can follow the recount numbers. However, it will be a slow death over the next 2 wks and you are going to be disappointed in the end – as I am now. The fix is in and Franken will win by 15 to 30 votes. They’ve stolen this.

  20. rdelbov says:

The numbers have been dancing around all afternoon, but right now its +167 Coleman, but Ramsey county has not reported yet.

There are now over 1100 contested ballots

  21. Phil says:

The Franken people are saying that they have it down to less than a hundred votes and expect Ramsey county (only 30% counted – to be a mother lode of Franken pickup votes).

May be bluster by Franken’s people, but I think both campaigns know pretty much what is left and a lot more about what the outcome will be.

  22. Richard Orby says:

“The fix is in and Franken will win by 15 to 30 votes. They’ve stolen this.”

Phil is an Obamabot troll, which means he wants to steal it.

  23. rdelbov says:

I am going to post later on today’s activity. Right now I suspect that the frivilous contests on about even with both sides contesting ballots that are obvious one way or the other.

Ramsey has counted much more then 30%, but they have not released today’s counts yet. I think once the smallish rural counties finish reporting today plus the Ramsey report we will be well over 60% counted

  24. Phil says:

    Phil is an Obamabot troll

Don’t spend a lot of time on this site do you Richard.

  25. Richard Orby says:

“The Franken people are saying that they have it down to less than a hundred votes and expect Ramsey county (only 30% counted – to be a mother lode of Franken pickup votes).”

Utter hogwash, Hennepin was a mother lode too for the first 30%, but now with over half counted Franken has only gained one vote in the biggest county in the state, where he won by 100k votes. Even if you extrapolate Ramsay and give Franken another 80 votes its not nearly enough. Coleman is picking up votes in counties favorable to him. COleman will win the recount. The Dems will have to steal it outright to win.

  26. Richard Orby says:

“Don’t spend a lot of time on this site do you Richard.”

More than you do, and I know an Obamabot when I see one…the oldest trick in the troll book, pretending that “they” are not you…..you have been shilling for Franken on all the posts on this site, so go back to Daily Kos where you belong.

  27. Phil says:

“Coleman is picking up votes in counties favorable to him”

Actually Richard, the biggest by far net pickup in votes for Frankin so far has been in Coleman’s biggest county – Dakota.

    Look it up.

  28. Phil says:

    Richard,

You don’t know what you’re talking about, and no, you don’t nearly spend the amount of time on this site that I do. Get a clue dude.

    LOL

  29. AC1 says:

    Richard-
Phil is on our side so give it up. Is it so hard to see that the Dems are trying to steal this one?

  30. rdelbov says:

    Richard Orby

let me comment Ramsey county. With a little effort you can zero on the tribune seat and find all the changes in ballots city by city in the metro area.

All of St. Paul was done wednesday and Thursday. Franken did pick up votes in St. Paul, but so far not much in the other communities in Ramsey. So I think they are woofing about Ramsey.

Coleman may get some votes back in Dakota county due to challegnes. In addition that’s just the way recount goes. Dakota went for Coleman and he has lost 38 votes while Fillmore was a break even county and Coleman got 14 more in the recount

  31. Phil says:

rdelbov, you are exactly right. You can’t extrapolate according to who won the county. We have indeed held up well in Hennepin County. All depends on the precincts.

I’ll never forget how Gore’s recount in Florida had him picking up a good number of votes in Dade County. His campaign just had the black precincts hand counted. What a lot of people don’t know is that after the Florida Supreme Court ordered all Dade County votes counted, Bush was well on his way to winning the recount because he was picking up a number of votes from the Cuban precincts. It does depend on the precincts.

  32. Richard Orby says:

    “Richard-
Phil is on our side so give it up. Is it so hard to see that the Dems are trying to steal this one?”

Phil is a troll, and of course the Dems are trying to steal it. Look at Phil’s posts throughout the site, its always the same formula, “give up, the other side is going to win, boo hoo”. Old troll trick.

  33. Richard Orby says:

The fact is if the law of averages prevails Franken might not do so well in Ramsay for the remaining votes, just like in Hennepin where at one point he had gained quite a few votes. So this mother lode crap is probably exactly that, crap.

  34. Phil says:

Coleman has presently picked up a net of 9 votes in Hennepin County with 53% of those votes reporting. Who would have believed that? There’s no pattern it seems. I worry about Ramsey County simply because I do not trust the election officials there. I trust Coleman allotted a big number of his observors there.

  35. Phil says:

Uh, Richard, have you been reading this site for the last 8 months?

    I didn’t think so.

  36. Richard Orby says:

For all of Phil’s hand wringing, with 55% of the recount done Franken has picked up exactly 53 votes. Give him another 50 and he is still short over a 100 votes. And btw Coleman is now UP 9 votes in Hennepin. The inner city votes might have dried up and suburban votes might be helping Coleman.

  37. Phil says:

Very well could be crap. I believe I said it might be bluster.

No one said or even inferred we need to give up.

  38. Richard Orby says:

“Uh, Richard, have you been reading this site for the last 8 months?

    I didn’t think so.”

Hate to tell you, but I have it bookmarked and have checked it everyday several times a day to get the updates on the polls.

  39. Phil says:

so you’v'e read my posts and have concluded I’m from daily kos? I’m an Obamabot?

I suggest you work on your reading comprehension.

  40. Richard Orby says:

“No one said or even inferred we need to give up.”

    Phil let me quote you..

“By all means, you can follow the recount numbers. However, it will be a slow death over the next 2 wks and you are going to be disappointed in the end”

    Sounds like you gave up…

  41. Phil says:

    Nope.

I’m as outraged as anyone here about a blatant effort to steal an election seat for the likes of Al Frankin. Maybe more.

  42. Richard Orby says:

Here is another Phil “positive post” elsewhere on this site…

“Uh look again Orby. It’s 41% of the precincts – ONLY 31% of the vote. They haven’t even counted a third of the actual votes. If the count progresses at the present pace, Franken wins by – 20 votes!

You are getting way ahead of yourself…
I’ve seen too many recounts and Democrats play to win. They will win this one by JUST enough votes.

Coleman loses. I’ve seen this movie before…..” Phil

Naaaaaaaaahhh, Phil doesn’t think we should give up, just that we already lost. Nuance…

  43. Phil says:

Well, I’m heading back over to Kos now.

Richard, spend a little more time on this site before you start catagorizing people. OK? You are making a fool out of yourself.

  44. Richard Orby says:

Ok Phil, maybe you aren’t a troll, but you impersonate one so well your talents are wasted here.

  45. Phil says:

Get a little seasoning on this site before you start tearing down the regulars.

    Out.

  46. Richard Orby says:

Sure Phil…here is another pearl I found you wrote…

“Republicans would normally be favored in Georgia. However, given that Republicans blew Indiana and NC for crying out loud, I don’t assume they will win anything. Not a damned thing.” Phil

Us Republicans are really dumb, them Dems are really smart….

  47. Brandon says:

This Richard guy needs to shut his mouth.

  48. Brandon says:

    A lot just reported.

    Coleman +120.

    64% of the vote in.

  49. rdelbov says:

two threads coming on the recount

  50. Richard Orby says:

“This Richard guy needs to shut his mouth.”

Sure Brandon, we can start the Fairness Doctrine right here.

  51. Richard Orby says:

Coleman took a sudden huge hit in Meeker county, wonder what’s up with that. He lost 43 votes in a small county. Completely at odds with the averages in the other counties of similar size.
