Anyone else in MD getting bombarded with Duncan Ads?
The semester just ended, so its the first time in a long time that Ive actually had the time to watch the local news, and within 5 minutes, Ive seen 4 Doug Duncan Ads.
I must say, though, they are terrible Ads. Looks like a high school film student put them together.
And you aren’t a night visitor here, so my work is done, I guess. Sorry about yesterday; Duke came within a millisecond of winning the day. Today was a piece of cake, though.:)

T-Dog,
Sorry about that above thread, but a victorious day for mnw means nothing to you; you have 2 wins and a draw this week. Besides, I only had a couple of minutes to snag it, and I was busy; I do have a life!:)
Did you all know that Dave Wissing is mentioned in Michelle Malkin’s book “Unhinged?”
I was reading part of earlier and I came across his name and I was very impressed.
It has to do with how Tom Daschle called one African-American female reporter by another’s name and the media never mentioned it while Dave said on this blog that a Republican doing that would have been accused of racism.
Mary Beth:
No middle finger salutes? Wow! Lady, you are making progress! And, if you have any advice on how I can avoid those this Fall, I would appreciate it.
pw:
If you ever saw me, my friend, you quickly realize that even “drag” wouldn’t help me! LOL
By the way, there’s a report on tv that Lamont is taking off after Lieberman on some Liberal blog. Anybody know anything about that?
No, but I don’t think it’ll matter. Hell, there’s http://www.dumpjoe.com
That’s been up for over a year, and it seems to have done no good; the bloggers are already against Lieberman, so I don’t think this will help his challenger.
the man who you reps chose to lead the war against terrorism?
cheney i get. rumsfeld too — if i wanted a guy to blow something up, rumsfeld would be the guy. either one i’m sure scares the living daylights out of the toughest terrorist anywhere. think about it, cheney shot one of his best friends in the face and i presume they liked each other. imagine what would happen if we just unleased them on the middle east, unfettered by congress.
now i’ve known some tough cheerleaders but, … i don’t know … maybe we shouldn’t tell that crazy iranian president bush was a male paper shaker.
Sen. Inhofe just introduced an ammendment to the Senate Immigration Bill that would make English the “national language”, and would make new citizens pass an English proficiency test. It passed, 63-37. Too bad it is linked to this terrible Bill, and will probably never become Law.
#29: Everybody knows that Bush is just a stupid puppet and that Cheney’s the real president.:)
Tim (#30):
Your being a Democratic field worker might cause you to have nausea in thinking this, but the only way this bill won’t pass if the House GOP stands strong. It’s supported by the vast majority of Dems, Bush and some Reps, but the House GOP is the last line of defense we have.
BTW, in yet another display of senatorial common sense, an amendment by Sen. Ensign that would have forced illegals to pay back fraudulently obtained social security benefits from when the illegals had stolen the numbers from citizens was defeated.
This bill gets worse and worse.
I don’t know how big a deal immigration is to you, but, if you’d like for it not to pass (but want Bush to be prevented from doing all sorts of other things like nominating conservative SCOTUS candidates), you should root for a Dem takeover of the Senate and the maintenance of GOP control over the House.
pw:
You’re gonna get your wish. That’s what I was talking about, was the House. I just don’t see a Conference Report on this thing. Speaker Hastert is just rattling the sabers all the way up Pennsylvania Avenue, and it looks like the House wll stick with what it came up with in December.
Remember, not everything the Democrats believe is right, and not everything the Republicans believe is wrong. And, vice-versa. Go get ‘em, Dennis! LOL
Well, Tim, I hope you’re right. You have more sources than I do inside Congress, so you’d have much more knowledge as to the future plans. I don’t understand why we can’t have what we all agree is necessary–a border enforcement bill. Get that out of the way first and then see what we can do about the illegals who are here. It’s kind of like a ship with a gash in it: You don’t try to dry the ship out while you’re stopping the flow of water in to the ship. Stop the water; then, dry the ship.
Oh, the nausea I was referring to involved the Reps keeping the House, not the House stopping this bill alone. If the Dems take the House, this bill will pass. That’s why I was bringing up the “I don’t know how important immigration is to you” stuff.
Kudos to Georgia, though; that state is reaaaaaaaaallllllly cracking down, so there must be a serious problem there.
also, pw, I must gently remind you that one Party controls everything in this Country right now, and the titular head of that Party is the person who brought all of this up. Otherwise, we wouldn’t even be talking about this.
Tim
The prez can’t do anything without legislation. Both parties deserve blame; if the Dems opposed this, it’d be slaughtered in both branches. Most Pubs oppose it; look at the Senate roll call votes on these amendments, for instance. But doesn’t Kerry support it? Immigration is coming up because of a combination of things, not the least of which is the anger about it from the public. Georgia, as you’ve detailed, is a major example. Bill Richardson and Janet Napolitano declared states of emergency along their borders, so it isn’t coming up just because Bush brought it up. Kerry would be dealing with it now as well. And, fortunately, that one party has enough control over one of the branches to stop it.
sadly the dems even many unions are supporting open borders. the afl-cio, UAW, and Teamsters are supporting amnesty now!!!! (however, most members are against it). my union, the IFT, is silent on the subject.
all i can say is that the members are getting screwed
my grandfather — a longshoreman — would have been up in arms
pw:
I just hoped this madness gets stopped. If Alfred E. Neuman stops it, then wonderful. If there are many in my Party who support this, then they are simply wrong.
Border security is not political. It’s common sense. I’m right with you on this. Ted Kennedy is with Bush. Like I said last night, I feel like I’m in the Paradox.
We all know that both Parties are posturing for a growing minority vote. And once again, the majority isn’t heard. Why? Because they all think we have nowhere else to go. Some things just never change.
lisab:
By “many” I was referring to elected officials. And, believe me, I will not desert my Party over one issue, either. On the other hand, no Law compels me not to agree with Conservatives on this one, for I surely do. They are right on this issue, and I hope their view prevails.
And sorry, but I could never vote for Dr. Rice or Mayor Guiliani. Never voted Republican in a Presidential Election. Would’ve voted for Lincoln or TR, though.
Tim, what do you consider to be the CORE values of the Democratic party ?
As you know I think they represent SECULAR HUMANISM, and support for abortion on demand and gay marriage, big Gov’t spending, and weak on national defense.
In the past they were the party of the workin man and still had some traditional values re church etc but IMHO most of that changed in 1968.
As loyal DEM ,what values of the party appeal to you ?
Good Lord! I need to go to bed. A long day and I finally (after hours and hours) get my Ipod straight and now lisab is talking about voting for a GOP candidate. I’m going to bed before something else weird happens.
Tim V:
I am something that you probably don’t encounter every day, for I am a Political Dinosaur. I’m a New Dealer, a disciple fo Roosevelt and Truman. Mostly, we don’t exist anymore.
On the other hand, I’m also something of an enigma, or not what you would normally think of in a Democrat. I’m a Southern Baptist Deacon, so I’m pro-life. And, as there are pro-life Democrats, there are pro-choice Republicans. This you know. I don’t support gay marriage, but I don’t really dwell on it as a major issue either, for to me it is not. Big Government spending is probably somewhere you shouldn’t go right now, for the Federal Government that your Party runs is spending money like drunk sailors. The National Debt has risen about $1.7 trillion on this Presiden’ts watch. Tax cuts without appropriate spending cuts is illogical. My Party is still the Party of the Working Man, the Poor, and the Elderly. We have proven it with our Legislation.
Funny you should mention 1968. That was the year of my first campaign. And, Kennedy and King were shot. And, Richard Nixon was elected. And, a war that my brother was in almost tore this Country apart. And, the people in my State voted for a Segregationist named George Wallace. Yeah, I remember 1968. And with me, a values debate would be pointless. I imagine I could give out about as good as I get.
Unfortunately, I shall have to look for your articulate response tomorrow, because I gotta go to bed. 4 am comes early! LOL goodnight, all. Keep the faith.
Tim, what do you consider to be the CORE values of the Democratic party ?
Anything that is against the Bush Administration! Their hatred of him is going to leave them in a mess when they have to define what they stand for in 2008.
Tim,
I could actually support a Dem candidate that you describe but unfortunately for this country they no longer exist. Since GWB was elected in 2000, I see the Dem Party moving further and further to the left. How do you explain that? Again, their hatred for Bush contributes to this shift and the fact that they are unable to see why the lost the last two elections. Both Algore and Kerry said that they didn’t get their message out. Bush is a moron but I have no answers just vote for me. They did and it was loud and clear. The American people rejected their message. It was the message and the messenger STUPID! Let us hope they don’t learn from history.
No, I have no problem with how other countrys decide who rules but don’t blame GWB for this guy in Iran being in power. If that is the case than GWB screwed up my ipod this morning.
imho — and not trying to insult any of the regulars here — the reps are a party of the rich, for the rich, and no one but the rich.
one thing which always staggers me is the disregard reps have for the poor in this country and (in the world actually).
try never to forget that unlike in a company you cannot fire/lay off citizens. so … you can either pay to help them with education and health care … or … you can pay to imprison them — but only after quite a bit of mayhem and perhaps murder.
either way you pay, but the second way costs a lot more.
oh btw, this is not in any way to say that the current social programs are run well … they aren’t.
for example why give anyone a welfare check? give cash to people who are the least educated in our society?! not smart. it’s the same with food stamps. what do the really poor know about nutrition?
i’ve worked in poverty programs overseas and believe me we never handed out cash.
“No, I have no problem with how other countrys decide who rules but don’t blame GWB for this guy in Iran being in power. ”
actually i blame gwb for causing iran to start this asap “crusade” for nuclear weapons. they feel threatened by bush in iraq and want to finish nuclear weapons before iraq settles down.
they probably believe that if they have atomic weapons we won’t mess with them, and they are probably right.
DUKE – I was wondering about your iPOD all day- really – as I was listening to mine, I thought of you. I am HAPPY you got it working – your sanity is important to me. I need the feminine touch here helping me out…!

DUKE – sorry – pw offered, nobody else did – so it’s me and him against y’all on this one!
Other than the threads – I’m with you DUKE. btw – aren’t you comforted with the fact that I felt bad about your iPod dilemma?
pw – we are not nags – you guys are hopeless!
Also – fight stuff – argh – you never watched a really good fighter – and it ain’t boxing without Howard Cosell!
Comment by Mary Beth Tung — May 19, 2006 @ 12:49 pm
MBT:
1. FEMALES ARE NAGS!
2. I’ve never watched a really great fighter? Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Roy Jones, Ricardo Lopez, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Floyd Mayweather
All great fighters, and I grew up watching all of them.
Also a lot of near-greats: Prince Hamed, Manny Pacquiao, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales
Oh, some more greats: Jeff Fenech and Orlando Canizales (one of the greatest bantams ever)
And Cosell was quite good.
Some more near greats: Brian Mitchell, Genero Hernandez, Michael Carbajal
Some more greats: Sung-Kil Moon, Gilberto Roman
Then there’s Khaosai Galaxy and Johnny Tapia.
Ahem…time for a retraction here.
Oh, I almost forgot about Kostya Tszyu, one of the greatest 140-pounders of all time.
Genaro Hernandez, I should say.
And I almost forgot about Chiquita Gonzalez and Daniel Zaragoza.
A lot of the fighters I’ve mentioned are from the lower weight classes.
In your time, some of the greats were Sal Sanchez, Eusebio Pedroza, Wilfredo Gomez, Carlos Zarate, Lupe Pintor, Jeff Chandler, Alfonzo Zamora, Santos Laciar, Hilario Zapata, Jung-Koo Chang and Miguel Canto (mid 70’s-mid 80’s).
pw:
I agree with #80. Except, late knockouts often don’t happen when fights are wars. Sudden knockouts often do.
Mary Beth:
You are right about Cosell. Best fight announcer I ever heard.
Go DUKE:
I am delighted about your ipod.
But no, I do not hate George Bush. I simply think that he is the worst President in my lifetime. I guess a lot of the intense hatred that some Democrats have for him arises from the circumstances surrounding the 2000 Election.
I don’t recall ever hating any Politician. The closest I ever came to it, as a matter of fact, was with two Democrats. One was Lester Maddox, Governor of Georgia (1966-1970). He was an unapologetic segregationist until his dying day. As I aged, I just came to pity him, and his backward beliefs. The other one was Congressman Larry McDonald. He was a member of the John Birch Society, and a genuine radical. No one who thinks that Dwight Eisenhower was a Communist belongs in the Congress.
No, I simply oppose the President, and Republicans in general, on issue driven stuff.
But, I admire true Conservatives for their passion. I wish that some in my Party had more of it.
The heavyweight division is pathetic. Probably the best of the lot is Toney (when he decides to get in shape). Wlad’s chin is crap; Rahman’s fighting Maskaev, who already KO’d Hasim viciously; Valuev’s a circus act who’s fighting Owen friggin’ Beck (loser of 2 fights in about a year), and Liakhovich is new, though he was impressive in winning the WBO title.
Duke: Yeah, right.
Well, let’s alter my prediction a little: Master Studmuffin PW TKO before the fight; Duke chips a nail when she goes to touch gloves and leaves the ring crying.
And growl!
For the record, I’m sure that Go Duke makes men salivate; we’re just screwing around (for any new readers).
How do you spell “mother”?

May I present to you Mary Beth Tung,
She is just so lovely, frisky and young,
She’s running for MarylandState Delegate,
And she sure ain’t runnin’ for the hell of it,
Trust me, she’ll make her opponents cow dung!
pw:
That has to be the most “unique” limmerick I have ever read. However, I don’t think it will find its’ way into Dr. Tung’s campaign literature. Just a wild guess! LOL

“I assume lisab that you would object to bombing Iran’s nuclear sites, am I right?” Tim V
Go Duke and Tim V
you are mostly right — at least right for now. i’m 99% a pacifist but this guy does scare me. religious fanatics are way scarier than sadam.
i’m really hoping he is just driving up the price of oil so he can live in a palace with his four wives
but unlike in iraq’s case i believe that this maniac is trying to build a bomb and would use it against israel.
but don’t feel bad that i may actually support force in this case because …
i do blame bush for getting us into iraq which i think caused this maniac to be elected
Comment by lisab — May 18, 2006 @ 9:28 pm
lisab or any other dems please feel free to respond to #52.
sometimes on taxes i do prefer the dems idea to roll back the tax cuts for the richest 1% since i aint 1 of them
and in times past the dems were out front on civil rights
and kenedy was strong on defense as was truman
but…
i just dont get the appeal of the dems at all
please enlighten me

Comment by Tim — May 18, 2006 @ 9:50 pm
Tim, what do you consider to be the CORE values of the Democratic party ?
Anything that is against the Bush Administration! Their hatred of him is going to leave them in a mess when they have to define what they stand for in 2008.
Comment by Go DUKE!!! — May 18, 2006 @ 9:50 pm
Tim,
I could actually support a Dem candidate that you describe but unfortunately for this country they no longer exist.

Go Duke,
so what if “I don’t think they exactly have a free democracy in Iran.”
a. the people there overthrew a shah who was propped up by us — also not exactly a democracy
2. it is NOT our country
china isn’t a democracy either, do you want to invade them too?

actually i agree with you 90% on what you just said
this hatred for bush is REALLY hurting the dem party

Tim V,
imho — and not trying to insult any of the regulars here — the reps are a party of the rich, for the rich, and no one but the rich.
one thing which always staggers me is the disregard reps have for the poor in this country and (in the world actually).
try never to forget that unlike in a company you cannot fire/lay off citizens. so … you can either pay to help them with education and health care … or … you can pay to imprison them — but only after quite a bit of mayhem and perhaps murder.
either way you pay, but the second way costs a lot more.

oh btw, this is not in any way to say that the current social programs are run well … they aren’t.
for example why give anyone a welfare check? give cash to people who are the least educated in our society?! not smart. it’s the same with food stamps. what do the really poor know about nutrition?
i’ve worked in poverty programs overseas and believe me we never handed out cash.

I don’t think being nags makes females the superior sex.
Comment by pw — May 19, 2006 @ 11:34 am
So, Tim, who wins Barrera/Juarez and Barrios/Nagi? I’m going with Barrera by decision and Barrios by late KO in a war.

Nagy, I mean.

Comment by pw — May 19, 2006 @ 1:27 pm
Some more near greats: Brian Mitchell, Genero Hernandez, Michael Carbajal
Some more greats: Sung-Kil Moon, Gilberto Roman
Then there’s Khaosai Galaxy and Johnny Tapia.
Ahem…time for a retraction here.
Oh, I almost forgot about Kostya Tszyu, one of the greatest 140-pounders of all time.
Comment by pw — May 19, 2006 @ 1:47 pm
Comment by pw — May 19, 2006 @ 1:50 pm
Alfonso Zamora, I should say.
Like I said, RETRACTION TIME!
Comment by pw — May 19, 2006 @ 1:51 pm

Comment by Tim — May 19, 2006 @ 5:37 pm
Tim,
Late KO’s and sudden KO’s aren’t mutually exclusive; I think Barrios wears him down with accumulation, the way he almost did to Freitas.

I am a bit weary of the abundant lack of overall talent lately in the heavyweight division. Aren’t you?
Comment by Tim — May 19, 2006 @ 6:19 pm
The heavyweight division is pathetic. Probably the best of the lot is Toney (when he decides to get in shape). Wlad’s chin is crap; Rahman’s fighting Maskaev, who already KO’d Hasim viciously; Valuev’s a circus act who’s fighting Owen friggin’ Beck (loser of 2 fights in about a year), and Liakhovich is new, though he was impressive in winning the WBO title.

Well, let’s alter my prediction a little: Master Studmuffin PW TKO before the fight; Duke chips a nail when she goes to touch gloves and leaves the ring crying.
